STUDIO
ELEMENTAIRES
Studio Élémentaires is the brainchild of two French artists Apolline Couverchel and Gauthier Haziza.
The poetic and theatrical dimension of their artworks stages and shifts the beauty of motions animating our daily surroundings. Without ever duplicating it, the artists collect and isolate a fragment of reality, thus questioning the acts of reproduction, recomposition and side-stepping. With a shared background in Living Arts, the duo conserves a fascination for light, envisaged as both a graphic and kinetic medium. Their singular creative approach, on contact with craft skills and new technologies instils in their moving sculptures a radical conceptual and aesthetic edge.
Commissioned and showcased in different settings : Art, Architecture and Design, the works of studio Élémentaires punctuate both public and private living spaces. After a first collaboration with Michelin-starred Chef Paul Pairet in 2013 and several fashion projects in Paris, the artists were invited in 2015 for a residency at the Swatch Art Peace Hotel in Shanghai, later signing a carte blanche with the Maison Shang-Xia founded by Hermès.
Returning from China, Apolline and Gauthier set up their workshop near Brussels in 2018, at Zaventem Ateliers and worked with, among others, Belgian interior architect Lionel Jadot and cultural institutions such as the Centre Pompidou or the Centre d’Innovation et de Design - Grand Hornu.
